Molecular based diagnostic testing for urinary tract infections: the results remain unclear
World journal of urology · Q1 journal · SR/MA of RCTs · Evidence level 1 (High) · 20 September 2026
In two recent randomized trials of 773 mostly older women, PCR-based testing was more sensitive than standard culture and led to faster symptom improvement over 28 days. However, the tests lacked specificity and most studies were funded by the manufacturers, so larger independent trials are needed before routine adoption.

Urine-Blood Culture Concordance in Suspected Urosepsis and Implications for Early Clinical Decision-Making
International journal of infectious diseases : IJID : official publication of the International Society for Infectious Diseases · Q1 journal · Cohort · Evidence level 3 (Low) · 3 September 2026
In a review of 2,572 adult urosepsis episodes, urine and blood cultures shared the same pathogen in 55% of cases, and urine results were available within one day for half of the patients. When concordant, urine susceptibility testing closely mirrored blood results and was linked to quicker inflammation decline and improved survival, suggesting urine culture can guide early therapy while blood results await.
